For this reason, the Women’s Liberation Birth Control Centre sought to uphold the right of all women to have full and complete control over their bodies as a basic human right, including the right to sufficient information and resources to make informed choices regarding birth control, sexual health, abortion, adoption, etc. At this time, the slogan of the Women’s Liberation group was: “We need to know, we want to help” and their services included pregnancy tests, contraception, as well as, counseling and support services for students. The Women’s Liberation group also called critical attention to incidents sexual harassment and sexual assault occurring within the campus community and advocated on behalf of students who experienced sexual exploitation while attending the university.
Resiliency
The Women’s Centre has struggled to maintain its position as a student service provider on campus since its very inception and has repeatedly risked budget cuts and braved harsh criticism from those who are opposed or threatened the services provided at the Women’s Centre as well as the mandate of Centre that is undoubtedly feminist and pro-choice.
