The URSU Computer Lab

The U of R Students' Union provided the space for a computer lab that would be available to students 24 hours a day 7 days a week (University Holidays excepted). There are no classes or labs scheduled to use the equipment in the Students' Union Computer Lab so you won't get kicked off of the machines.

Equipment

There are 22 computers in the lab running Microsoft Windows XP Pro (SP1).
The lab has 1 HP LaserJet 4100 printer. See below for instructions to enable printing using your U of R user account.

Microsoft Office XP (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape Navigator browser software
Execmail (e-mail client)
FTP, Telnet and SSH client software.

User Access

Every registered U of R Student has a uregina.ca user account. You don't need a user account in order to use the computers, however; with Instructions for logging on without a uregina.ca account

1. Find a computer that's not already in use.
2. Hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete to get a login prompt.
3. Read the message in the dialogue box. It will give you the generic username for the computer you are using.
4. Type the generic username in the "Username:" box.
5. Don't put anything in the "Password:" box (i.e. leave it blank).
6. Click "Ok" to start using the computer.
7. Logout when you are finished using the machine.
8. Instructions for finding your user account information

Login to the computer using the generic username.

Double click on the "Locate Username" icon on the desktop or open a web browser program and go to https://atlas.cc.uregina.ca/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/root/studentlookup.pl Enter your "Student Number" and "Birthdate" in the input boxes. The system will give you your "Username" and "Password". Logout of the generic account.
Hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete and login using your own Username and Password.

Instructions for enabling printing on your student account

In order to print using the printers in the computer lab you will need to enable printing. The U of R uses a system that bill printing charges directly to your student account. Your student account will be billed 10¢ for each page that you print.

Find a computer that's not already in use.

Login using your U of R Username and Password. If you haven't already done so; change your Default Password (the one that the system provided in the section above). There are two methods to change your password.

1. If you are using a computer running Windows XP (all of the computers in the Students' Union computer lab are running Windows XP) you can hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete (while logged in using your own user account) and click the "Change Password" button.

2. Alternatively, you can open a web browser and go to Change Password to change your password.
Logout of the computer and then log back in again using your Username and new Password.
Click the "Lab Printing" on the desktop or open a web browser and go to Lab Printing and enter your username and password to enable computer lab printing for your account.
Note: Always remember to logout of the computer that you are using when you are finished using it. You are responsible for all printing that's done using your account; even printing that happened when someone else used your account because you forgot to logout
.
