VP Student Affairs
Melissa Blackhurst(Voice of Students)
My name is Melissa Blackhurst, and I am running to be our students' union vice president of student affairs. I am in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies, and have attended the University of Regina for two years. In that time I have had the opportunity to be a member of the kinesiology and health studies student society. I currently hold an executive position as vice president of communications. Last year I had the opportunity to run for president for the students' union. The opportunities I have taken in on campus have, I believe, given me knowledge and experience to run for vice- president of student affairs of URSU. We have acquired a strong team, and I hope we can earn your support.
Here is our platform:
Lobby for a tuition freeze;
Review the locker tax;
Increase funding to student groups and societies;
Make more money available for events hosted by residence student groups;
Reduce the number of free classes given to URSU executives, and eliminate their discounts at the Owl.
Increasing funding for student groups and societies will help to promote increased student engagement on campus. The availability of more money for residence student groups to host events would be beneficial to promote activities that do not involve alcoholic beverages and encourage on and off campus events so students can become familiar with Regina. URSU has a fundamental role to play in advocating for students' needs, and the Voice of Students team will do just that.
Thank-you
