President
Kent Peterson (Voice of Students)
My name is Kent Peterson, and I'm running to be our students' union president. I am in the Faculty of Business Administration, and have been at the U of R for four years now. In that time I have had the chance to be a member of over seven university clubs, and held a number of executive positions. I have also served on the board of our student newspaper after the voters of this university elected me to do so. My involvement in campus life has, I believe, given me the experience to now seek the presidency of URSU. We have assembled a strong team, and I hope we can earn your support.
Here is our platform:
- Lobby for a tuition freeze;
- Review the locker tax;
- Increase funding to student groups and societies;
- Make more money available for events hosted by residence student groups;
- Reduce the number of free classes given to URSU executives, and eliminate their discounts at the Owl.
Over the past two years tuition has increased 3 per cent, then 5 per cent - far greater than the rate of inflation. In addition to skyrocketing tuition, affordable housing is nearly non-existent, and the costs of utilities keep going up. URSU has a fundamental role to play in advocating for students' needs, and the Voice of Students team will do just that.
