President
Reid Hill
Fellow Students:
My name is Reid Hill; I am a fifth year History major minoring in Political Science. I am putting my nomination in for President of the Student Union. Over the past five years I have seen three different Student Unions come and go. One froze our tuition and I applaud Mike Burton for his effort in doing so. The second lasted only one year and only achieved in making the Union fall from the forefront of Student minds. The current executive council has excellent business instincts, but the lack the perspective on the overall student body. I do give credit to the incumbents for getting the Owl back on track as well as increasing the output of monies towards student groups.
I wish to look at the current state of the tuition fees at the University of Regina is going up. It would be irresponsible to not look at this issue with great care and attention. I would be the students advocate in this matter to do whatever possible to prevent tuition from rising at 5 percent. Someone needs to speak for the students since the provincial and federal governments will not do so.
I also wish to look at the U-pass which could provide an invaluable service to students. Taking the University of Saskatchewan U-pass an example of what could be done at this University. It will be up to the students to decide if it is right for them.
Thank you! Please go out and vote!
