LGBTI Director
Shannon Berry
My name is Shannon Berry and I am running for LGBTI Director. If elected, I intend on establishing UR Pride's Positive Space Campaign on campus to reduce incidences of harassment and discrimination. In addition, I would make it my mission to enforce a Queer-friendly curriculum to avoid incidences of institutionalized homophobia be it intentional or accidental. The University of Regina needs a more united student body where any form of diversity is not 'othered' or discriminated against. As my personal hero once said, "Power to the people!" Students have the power, and myself along with the Voice of Students slate, and an accurate representation of the student body by allowing students a voice to communicate their concerns, I encourage every student to use that power.
I am currently on the board of the UR Pride Centre for Sexuality and Gender Diversity, Inc. and want to be a part of creating a more united student body on campus. I have been volunteering with the centre for almost two years and from that experience I have been reaching beyond campus through giving workshops outside the University community and assisting in the facilitation of Regina's only Queer Youth Group without forgetting to focus on establishing a Queer presence on campus through the hosting of events and organizing various information tables in the Riddell Centre. If you have recently seen a table with a rainbow flag promoting positive interaction between the Queer community on campus and the general student community, chances are I was there and will continue to be.
