Hi, I'm David Baxter and I'm running for Director of Arts Students. I'm a third year journalism student and I believe I would be a good fit for the job. As far as campus involvement goes I am currently a member of the Journalists for Human Rights chapter here at the university and I have served on the Residence Recreation Committee.
Issues that I believe need to be addressed in the next academic year include lobbying for a tuition freeze. Tuition continues to rise each year, and something needs to be done. I also believe in increasing funding to student clubs. This can be done by limiting the perks of executive members, such as no more free food from The Owl and only one free class per semester. Executive members currently get two free classes. This would free up about $4000 in the budget.
If elected I will work with the Arts' Students Society to try to build more unity amongst arts students since it's pretty spread out as a faculty. Further more if I am elected I will bring any concerns arts students have to the URSU board. My email is davidbxter@gmail.com so feel free to contact me.
Finally I would like to endorse the Voice of Students Campaign. I have met with their members, and I believe they would do a lot of good for the students of this school if they were elected.
